Why did you pick this product vs others?:Replacement for a cheaper door. And this one will work for Vermont extreme winters.

Little harder to install than expected. Maybe our sliding glass door is old and different than most current models but we ended up having to cut a piece from the bottom to get it to fit. Seemed like it might not hold well but we have 5 dogs from 10 to 65 lbs and it’s held up for 4 months so far. Had to do a lot of insulating around edges (again maybe because of old door) but overall it’s been great!

Our senior dog has bladder cancer needing to go out quite a bit and this saves us from having to let her out, especially at night we don't have to get up she just comes and goes. Of course initially there is some slight training involved w/treats to learn the door. The overall door is quality made and worth the price for the double pane glass needed for the winter months. There will most likely be some alterations needed since every slider door frame is different. I had to cut off part of the bottom plate w/a reciprocal saw then install a piece of wood beveled out in the middle to accommodate my door track groove. I'm sure if you don't want to go to this extent you could get some thick foam insulation strips that had adhesive on one side. I installed 2 vertical runs of foam insulating v-seal in between where the slider and panel, then added a 2" rubber strip between slider glass and slider frame gap to seal from door being partially open. Somewhat of a design flaw that others have noticed is the door flap does not always seat itself properly leaving a large gap on the bottom allowing air to just flow in. There are 2 magnets on the bottom that are supposed to freely slide up and down to catch the door as it swings open and close however if the gap is too big the bottom magnets do not attach to door panel. Also, the door will swing open freely during heavy winds bc it.is not properly attached to the bottom defeating the purpose of a winterized door. Either they need to design this flap with stronger magnets or less of a gap. I had to raise the magnets about 1/2" higher then added duct tape to hold in place while still allowing for the magnets to have some slight movement. The locking bar that comes with it is also sturdy. Despite needing to figure out some issues, I've made the deal tightly sealed and operable w/the need to occasionally manually clasp the doggy door itself if the flap is misaligned, other than that it saves us from constantly having to get up to let the dogs out. Aesthetically, it looks like it is part of my slider which is also nice, doesn't look cheap.

This product looks great and works great once installed. I like that it’s delivered in two pieces, it makes the product/packaging much more manageable. I live in a colder mountain climate, so the extra insulation is ideal for me. My only knock is that the instructions do not mention the need adjust your sliding door rollers to fix a potential uneven gap between your door and this insert. For mine it was touching at the top and I had a two inch gap at the bottom of my sliding door. Fortunately I’ve adjusted door rollers in the past and knew what to do. I can see people not knowing this and returning the product even though it is an easy fix.

I should start by saying this review is for the customer service, not the door (I've had this same door installed and it's been amazing after 3 years of frequent use). I just purchased another door for my parents and it came without any of the hardware or weatherstripping required to install it. I called PetSafe directly and was told they don't carry any replacement parts and I would have to return the door to Amazon and purchase another one (original shipping box required). While this is extremely inconvenient, it also tells me that the future failure of any parts would mean replacing the whole door because the brackets and mounting rods aren't something you can find at a hardware store. I'm really disappointed in PetSafe and expected much better from them.

Spent over an hour rigging it to work in the slider. I chose to not drill additional holes in many spots in the slider door frame to keep it in place.Worked until the 67lb hound blew through it at nearly 25 mile an hour chasing a rabbit. Had I not caught the entire slider insert, it would have fallen back onto the floor inside. And really defeating the purpose of the thing. Still couldn’t get myself to drill those extra holes in the slider door jam. Took the loss and sold it at the garage sale.

This thing has performed perfectly for your 3 dogs going into our yard. A year in, it has no signs of breaking or wearing out. Best purchase we’ve made for the house (aside from a new furnace).

I wanted a hefty product to stand up to the Colorado winter. The fit and finish is exactly what I wanted. If you have a single rail down in the door tract, I recommend notching out the bottom for a perfect tight fit. I used a dremel, but I suppose a hacksaw would do.
