This is how I looped mine just in case the pin comes out by accident. I can have it attached so I can repin ASAP.

Please don't do this without a good reason. People get within 6' of each other regularly, without nefarious intent. I doubt you'd get sued for it, but you might if you gave someone a heart attack. You will also reduce this device's effectiveness if you overuse it, a la car alarms or "the boy who cried 'wolf!'". Stuff like 'you smell bad near me', although I get the sentiment, is not an ethical use for this device. 'It's jUsT fOr YouTubE, bRo' is also not an ethical use. Just use it if there's a real need, you'll be less likely to get sued.

Q: Does the pin actually separate from the body when pulled?

Yes - and as soon as it's removed the sound this little alarm emits is ear-piercing! The pin remains attached to the looped cord when pulled, so it doesn't get lost, and it's very easy to re-insert the pin to stop the noise. The key ring is securely attached, so that's how you'd want to hold the device.
