Mindblindness: An Essay on Autism and Theory of Mind

I work with children with Autism and was recommended this book by a professor. It talks a lot about evolution and adaptation which I am not interested in. However, the book itself is very insightful. The author does a fantastic job describing how children with Autism think. If you are interested in more psychological/scientific approach to understanding their difficulty in understanding social cues this is a great read.

This book is based on past research, as it should be. The ideas in it, however, seem formulated for the topic. The arguments for and against the author's theory are both convincing, but arguments in favor of the author's theory read like there is a slight bias behind them.All in all, though, this book is excellent because the author does an excellent job of explaining a topic that has little or no definition.

Good book. Recommended for anyone who's autistic or professionals who work with autistic people.

This book is a must-read for those doing serious research of autism spectrum disorders. Fascinating reports of research exploring Theory of Mind in children diagnoses with autism.

Great book, not the typical book that a parent would assume would be able to help their child but mind blindness is something that can affect a lot of children on the spectrum and this is a great introduction it is a subject that is not often discussed however understanding a little bit about it can explain some of the many behaviours associated with autism

Extremely valuable ideas. There are holes in them but a massive contribution. It is good to see someone distinguishing between underlying causes and the ultimate symptoms

I bought this book as the parent of a child with autism. I was having difficulty understanding his language problems when his vocabulary and syntax are above average for his age. I also have a background in mental health and some experience of reading psychological texts. I found this book quite a challenge at times as it is not targetted at the lay reader. However it was ultimately very helpful in understanding some of the fundamental difficulties people with autism have. I would recommend it for parents of a child with autism. It is worth persevering with.
